Access

We offer our services to internal (FU Berlin) as well as external (academic and industrial) partners.

A full description of our regulations can be found in our access policy (Nutzerregelung) [german only].

Inquiry process

After initial contact has been established and a rough project description is sketched, we will try to set up a face-to-face (or web) meeting to discuss details.

Afterwards the BSC lead decides on project initiation/continuation based on certain criteria (scientific quality; type of analysis; experimental design, i.e. how data will be acquired, conditions, replicates etc; free capacity;) within a few days. All applicants will receive feedback.

Internal project applications are given priority over external inquiries in times of high-workload.

Internal Partners (FU Berlin)

Upon project completion, funds are simply transferred internally (Kontierung via Kostenstellen).

External Partners (Academic and Industrial)

We are currently operating on the basis of cooperation agreements and flexible individual contracts. Please contact us for details.

Confidentiality

All applications are treated confidential.

Acknowledgements / Co-Authorship / Usage of Results

We ask to inform us about publications or patents which are based on results generated by BSC.

If data analysis is non-standard and requires significant development of new bioinformatic tools or methods (i.e. substancial scientific input), co-authorship of scientific papers is warranted (unless specified otherwise in our contract, e.g. by NDA). We will discuss this topic before starting the project.

Standard procedure for most projects will be as follows: all software and analysis pipelines developed by BSC remain with us; all data & results exclusively belong to the customer.

Access Fee

In the future, we might introduce an initial consulting fee. Currently, an initial project meeting is free of charge.
